Volunteers and Student Assistants

We appreciate our volunteers and student assistants very much! They fill a variety of roles within the Gallery, including front desk reception and security duties, assisting with installations, and maintaining notice-boards. For front desk reception duties, we ask a basic commitment of one three-hour shift at a regular time each week. Training is provided.

Student Employment opportunities: We have a limited number of spaces for student employees, funded through the Dalhousie Student Employment program. You must be a registered Dalhousie student to apply. Student employees often begin as volunteers, and then move to employment status when vacancies occur.

If you would like to become a Gallery volunteer or student assistant, please contact us at 494-2403 or by email at art.gallery@dal.ca.

Student Interns
Students from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design are able to apply for an internship at the Dalhousie Art Gallery. Over the course of their internship, students are introduced to general Gallery procedures and museological principles; half-way through the term they choose one area of the Gallery’s activities for a more focused project, such as researching an aspect of the Permanent Collection or organizing an educational program for a specific exhibition. The internship is a credit course and students must be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in order to apply.
